The imac all the way.
And, I’m not biased because I grew up with windows 3.1, and I liked it a lot. I just bought a MacBook, and I love it to death, because it has all the software I will ever need on it… and so much more like garageband and imovie! Windows on the other hand, you’ll get Microsoft word and excel…. maybe… in a trial version. Your best bet is the imac.

I struggled with almost the same question last Christmas.
I went with a 21.5 iMac.
Why? Don’t specifically know. I CAN tell you though that there hasn’t been a second of regret getting it. It’s plenty fast, has plenty of stuff on it that I can use, plenty fast, easy to install software on it, plenty fast, beautiful screen, great memory management (4gb runs LOTS of apps no problem), plenty fast, too.
Oh…and it’s plenty fast! I use GIMP a lot for image manipulation and it blows through my workload nice and quick.
I got iTunes playing an internet radio station, Mail open and updating every 15 minutes, GIMP in the background, iCal in the background, iPhoto in the background, OpenOffice open, Firefox open with 8 tabs active, and I even have MagicJack for my “land” line. And SOPHOS as my anti-virus…also always running. It doesn’t miss a beat.
Again…all with just 4gb memory and the 3.06 i3. And there’s STILL memory available.
I guess you know which machine I’d vote on you getting.
Oh, and it didn’t hurt when people told me how jealous they were that I got an iMac.
Hope this helps.
